Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey
The Holy Trinity campus plan from above at the corner of Mill Rd. and Ridge Ave. The seed that was planted here 41 years ago was God-inspired and has produced the great fruit of our vibrant Holy Trinity Family and its many ministries housed in this beautiful complex.
The New Church will be set back from the existing church and replace the existing connecting hallway. This set-back will allow more space to remove the front steps and to have easy drop-off access to the sanctuary.
Aerial view of the New Church set next to the Spiros Alexander Malaspina Community Center. Both the New Church and Community Center will blend together seamlessly
An exterior walkway, our Prayer Circle, will encircle the New Church offering a place for outside mediation and prayer. It will be used especially for the Good Friday Epitaphios processions rather than walking through the parking lot. It is behind the Church that we can inscribe the names of those who have fallen asleep in the Lord, and commemorate them during the Epitaphios Procession.
The Bell Tower is designed to be functional, serving as a staircase to the Upper Gallery, as well a symbol calling all people to Christ. The Bell Tower and Church Dome will be distinctive.
The Exonarthex (portico) will guard the faithful from the elements as they enter and exit the Church. With its exterior iconography, it will mark the transition from the secular world outside to the sacred space inside. The circular driveway will allow for easier drop-off as well as more elegant space for wedding parties and funeral processions. monuments in South Jersey.
Description:
The New Church Design is built on an octogon plan similar to many historic Greek Orthodox churches (eg. Sts. Sergios and Bacchus in Constantinople). It has an open space interior without columns, and will have a higher but smaller dome. This design has a similar footprint to our current Church. It will have the same open feeling of our current church that gives us the sense of God's Grace encircling us.
The interior of the sanctuary is focused on the altar and solea (processional space in front of the altar) which is the focal point of our faith. The solea will on the same level as the nave (no step) and there will only be a single step up to the altar. Spaces for the Psalti (chanter) and Choir are identified.
There is an ample sized vestry for Fr. George and visiting priests and bishops to comfortably vest, and to hold the sacristy (storage for the chalices and holy vessels). On the left there is a room for the acolytes to vest that also has a bathroom. The ambulatory (passage behind the altar) allows acolytes to walk behind the altar without being seen, as well as serves as additional closet and icon/sacristy storage space.
There are two Exedras, apse spaces that will serve as chapels: one for St. Nectarios on the right side, and one for St. John the Baptist that will also contain the adult baptistry on the left. (We will still do infant baptisms on the solea). There is a Cry/Bride room, a room dedicated to infants and small children during Divine services that can double as a Bride waiting room.
The Narthex is large with enough space for the Parish Council to have an office, and store candles. One of the rooms can also store choir robes and choir books. There is an additional Flex Room for staging processions.

Near the entrance, there are two handicap accessible bathrooms, one for men and one for women.
We felt it was also important to keep the Greek school room close to the church. This is especially for parents waiting for their children who can participate in the evening services, especially during lent. There is also an additional Flex Space, and a dedicated Philoptochos room.
